"The Magic of Food" is basically another "follow my healthy diet" book. I'm interested in "foods that act together to produce a total effect...that is greater than the sum of the individual foods" (from the ARC book description). However, what I got was a list of individual foods and the research done on the health benefits of that food or phytonutrient that food contains. And the book was very scientific; he even explained the chemical structure of fats and the structural differences between Omega-3, Omega-6, and Omega-9 fats.The author started by looking at several societies that live long, healthy lives and briefly explained what foods he thought contributed to that health. Then he looked at good fats versus bad fats, superfood fruits and veggies, and the health benefits of various common spices and herbs. He explained his recommend eating habits then provided some sample meal plans and some recipes. He recommended eating more (and a variety of) plant foods, more fish and less red meat, and eating 3 meals and 3 snacks each day. At the end, he included a list of some health problems (like anemia, constipation, hives, MS, and RA) along with some studies about what foods might help that condition.While he recommended avoiding GMO canola, for some reason he didn't talk about other GMOs like soy when he suggested foods like tofu and soy milk. He spent some time talking about Glycemic Load and strongly recommended eating low GL foods, then he recommended juicing fruits and veggies (which removes the fiber and makes them into higher GL foods). And then he suggested using a fiber supplement to get enough fiber in your diet. So that didn't seem logical to me. Overall, though, the information was good.I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

Great book! Very helpfull

I can always count on Dr Murray to write clear, inspiring, and practical tips for better self care. Few doctors understand the importance of food and can write with the wisdom from years of experience that is easy to read. This is a book I can use for my clients who either want to read about health issues or want a reference book they can look up topics when they need to access information they can count on. Dr Murray is a master author and doctor whose passion to contribute to people is on every page. I enjoyed this book and I have a list of who I know will benefit from spending time exploring either the concepts Dr Murray puts forth about healthy living or the people I know who will enjoy the many easy recipes and tips for living with more freedom and ease in our body.

The author did a great job of explaining some history and facts about the body and various foods. He helped me see the body as a system. He offered a variety of suggestions that I have started to implement. For me, I feel a lot of pain in my hands and joints when I eat many types of foods. I have tried for years to figure it out. Many foods make me feel bloated. I needed to understand why and this book is very helpful in explaining why and what's happening. I used to be able to eat anything, but now so much seems off limits to me. I just started reading the book this past week and I'm implement some of the suggestions. I'm already feeling much much better, it's amazing! But,I'm skeptical, so I will come back to this review in one month after I have had a chance to incorporate more foods into my life. I am really feeling better after just one week. Thank you!!!

I like Dr. Murray's books. Easy to follow, good advice with lots of support for the suggestions offered.
