Review

Finally I have a Southern cooking cookbook that even offers me drink recipes and what they are best served with. I can't wait to sample the libations and turn my Christmas cooking into a new tradition!  It's got a great blend of recipes for all day eating, and many of them are different from other Southern cooking recipes. I look forward to adding many of these (like Self-Crusting Coconut Pie and Iceberg Wedge Salad) to my weekly menu.- Stephanie Ayers, AuthorFixin' to Eat: Southern Cooking For The Southern At Heart is a really good source for recipes and authentic southern dishes.  I like that the directions are easy to follow, even if you are new to Southern cooking ... the recipes make me want to head for the kitchen and get busy creating something delicious.  I found this e-book to be informative and yet simple enough for even someone new to the kitchen to be able to create a yummy dish or complete meal and serve it with confidence.- Kathy Roberts, Candy Crush & Snowman ButtsThe recipes in this e-book are mouth watering!  I want to try making most of these dishes. Katie provides a nice list of meal to make from breakfast to starters, main dishes, side dishes and the best part of any course: dessert!  This cookbook has a little bit of everything. Buttermilk biscuits? Check. Cornmeal gravy? Oh yeah! Did someone say honey cola ham? ... and the list goes on and on!- Ingrid I. Ortiz, Mommy & Mia Homeschool ChroniclesThis is a great cookbook filled with different twists on old recipes, and then some new recipes that I've never heard of like Coca Cola Salad.  Many of these recipes seem very easy to make, and I can see my kids learning to make recipes like Cream Cheese and Pimento Stuffed Celery in the kitchen.  There are also some great tips included in the book as well like how to pair wines with certain dishes. I am definitely going to try out the recipe for the Self-Crust Coconut Pie which sounds AMAZING!- Susie Mimm Kirby, Kirby's Korner

Easy to follow tasty recipes to upgrade your cooking routine.

ok cookbook

Meh. No pictures, poor recipes, odd. Some recipes are just wrong. Take the casseroles for instance, made WITHOUT liquids of any kind- won't work. Choose another book.

Bad poor excuse for a cook book

I have grown up eating Southern food all my life. I love everything about it and I always love finding a cookbook that has good Southern food recipes.  As I was going through this book it made me think of my mom cooking. She had a few of the same recipes that were in here. I always loved my mom's cooking and I hope someday to cook as good as her.My favorite recipes in the book are the Buttermilk Drop Biscuits (Who doesn't love biscuits?), Prime Rib Roast, Slow Cooker Pork Barbecue Sandwiches and the Black-Eyed Peas. The only thing I don't really care for in the book is the lessons on pairing what alcoholic beverages with what types of meals. I am not a drinker so it doesn't really apply to me. I know this can be helpful to other people who do drink so I am sure it would be good for them.

I received an ARC to read for my honest opinion.Fixin' to Eat by Katie Moseman had one or two recipes I know I will never try. It is only because I do not like bourbon honey milk. The tarragon goat cheese deviled eggs did sound interesting even though I do not care for goat cheese. My only complaint is that I wish it was more recipes for the wine, spirit, and beer since this is a cookbook. But she did include tips and pairing suggestions. I was surprised to read some recipes that I had already tried and loved. This would be a great cookbook for anyone that loves to cook different things or try new recipes.

I received a copy of this ebook to review. My review is not influenced by this.Katie Moseman has been someone I've followed for a while, whether it was reading her recipes in Time, Parade, etc. so I was very excited when I found out she had put a book together about southern food. I enjoyed the recipes for biscuits, cornmeal gravy (we added sausage), I also enjoyed knowing I could make chicken nuggets and fish sticks from scratch without frying them. These are recipes that many southerners grew up with, and I'm glad that I can share this with my friends who aren't from the south too! I have removed processed foods, so this book uses recipes from scratch which helps me not lose a lot of my favorite foods.

I like to cook, so I jumped at the chance of obtaining a copy of this book. On the plus side, the recipes are pretty basic to make (nothing too difficult to do), easy to follow, and don't require any items that you can't easily find in your pantry or grocery store. On the negative side, it doesn't have pictures and this is something I like in cookbook because I am very visual when it comes to cooking. The cookbook includes some of the traditional southern recipes that you expect to find such as buttermilk biscuits, pimento cheese, and fried okra. The favorite recipes for me were the baked beans with bacon and the sweet cornbread. Both of which were the hit of my holiday party.I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
